Good health, good physical function and quality of life

The primary goal of the social and health care services of Kuopio is in promoting a health, mental and physical function of citizens. The primary goal is in preventative health care, which means that the citizens are encouraged to take responsibility for their own health.

Health services are divided into outpatient care, hospital services, services for children and adolescents, mental health services for adults and substance abuse treatment.

Outpatient care includes appointments with doctors in five different health centres and dental health care in seven different dental clinics. Rehabilitation units are located at the main health centre (Tulliportinkatu) and at Harjula hospital. The maternity care and child health care units are located in several districts of the city. Every school has a school nurse for pupils.

In Harjula and Valkeinen hospitals have short and long-term wards. In Harjula hospital there is also an outpatient clinic, where specialist doctors of the city are practising.
